The A-Team Movie

Rumours of an A-Team movie have been circulating for quite a while now, but it was only recently that Fox 2000 announced that it had signed up by the rights to make it.  However, Fox also announced that the original cast of George Peppard (now deceased), Dirk Benedict, Dwight Schultz and Mr. T would not be reprising their roles.  Instead it looks like some of Hollywood's big names could line up for the movie, but as Empire Online stated, "It is, however, difficult to see how the progeny of ‘young-Hollywood’ could ever compete with the camp charm of Peppard’s cigar-chomping leader, Dwight Schultz’s “crazy fool” Murdock, Dirk Benedict’s prettyboy and the surly glare of a gold-laden Mr.T".  However, original producer Stephen J. Cannell will be producing and Kevin Brodbin - who wrote The Glimmer Man (1996) - will be writing.

There have been many names suggested but so far no-one has been confirmed.  A list of possible actors is given below:

John "Hannibal" Smith Mel Gibson, Tommy Lee Jones
Templeton "Face" Peck Christian Bale, James Marsden
"Howlin' Mad" Murdock Jim Carrey
B.A. Baracus Ving Rhames, Michael Clarke-Duncan

Apparently the budget would be in the \$100 million bracket and the old cast would be asked to make cameos in the film. The releasee date is unknown, but as the movie is in such an early stage of development 2003 would seem like the earliest possibility.

Personally I'd like to see the movie succeed, but without the input of the old characters I can't see it happening. I don't think any actor could do the characters justice, especially B.A.. Mr. T wasn't a great actor, but you could tell that he loved that role alternating between scowling tough guy and smiling gentle giant. Plus, some of the actors could wreck the movie - especially Jim Carrey and his huge, not-so-funny ego.
